2014 CAAFI General Meeting
More than 250 aviation alternative fuels thought leaders traveled from 16 countries on five continents.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack spoke passionately to the group about all that alternative aviation fuels mean for rural America and the U.S. in general, and his continuing commitment to achieving Farm-to-Fly 2.0 goals. The secretary was introduced by Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Energy, Installations & Environment, Dennis McGinn, who also emphasized the Navy’s interest in continuing development of alternative sources of fuel supply, as evidenced by the launch of the USN/USDA Farm-to-Fleet program scheduled for the following day.
FAA Administrator Michael Huerta re-confirmed his agency’s commitment to alternative aviation fuels as part of a larger program to reduce the environmental impact of the aviation enterprise.
President and CEO of Alaska Airlines, Brad Tilden, keynoted the first day, and further emphasized the value of CAAFI’s work in sustainable alternative jet fuel development as a key element of Alaska’s push as a biofuels pioneer.
Rich Altman, CAAFI Executive Director Emeritus, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the current Executive Director, Steve Csonka and honored by a team of CAAFI colleagues including Marion Blakey, now President and CEO of Aerospace Industries Association and Carl Burleson, currently Acting Assistant Administrator, at FAA (both were directly involved in the conception and formation of CAAFI along with Rich).
Seven moderated presentation and discussion panels included:
- Government Partners’ Activities Update
- Public-Private Partnership Efforts
